I don’t think you can be as good as KU has been in many games on first shot defense just naturally. I think the issues we see with terrible rebounding, lack of ability to get to the basket…and finish, lackadaisical getting back in transition is more the kid than the coach. Could it be hammered more in practice, sure.

The issue from a coach perspective is he brought these kids here and thought he had it right. CBB is arguably more mercenary roster building than career guys. I fear Self has no connections like he had in the past to a lot of assistants around the country to go find a guy or two that have proven they can identify the mid major kids that are ready to be the guy at KU. He desperately needs a GM that has been outside of the KU system and a young coach that can teach kids to shoot, Case can get all the rah tag in the world but he’s been part of the worst Self teams so that needs to be tempered
