Coaches do a better job of getting more national kids across the board. Specifically Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Our conference has been lacking elite teams outside of KU for sometime now. We always have good teams which is why our conference is in the 2-3 range. It helps KU from a competition standpoint and it helps the conference get more coverage/publicity.
UNC has its Duke, Cuse, Louisville etc, UK-UF, Zona-UCLA, MSU-Mich-Indiana-OSU-Wisc etc... We need some of our name brands to step up.... They are also more likely to draw some top prospects. Barnes does just cannot develop them, hopefully, he is canned.
Iowa State is the closest thing we have had in awhile but they really aren't that good and it is still Iowa State.
Missouri had a really good team in 2012, KSU had a couple teams that could rival that Missouri squad but other than that it's been awhile since any of these teams were legit. The league was really fun when UT, OU and OSU all had truly elite type teams.... Not teams that were ranked because someone has to be ranked in that spot like this year.
I think KU would benefit in the long run, even if it meant sacrificing a few conference championships.
