Here is the unofficial guide on how to beat the red rrrrrrrrraiders (take notes @billself)
First, we need to protect the 3 point line. They shoot 3's at 37.6% and make almost 10 a game, but when they aren't making them then they typically don't score. They take 26 3's/game and can hit them up and down the lineup. They allow 20 attempts per game and we only take 21 attempts per game. If we can get them out of their normal 3 offense and battle it out in 2 point land then we would have a huge advantage.
They're very good at rebounding, so we need to take care of business down low and limit the long offensive rebounds from their barrage of 3's.
They don't get blocks, they're 15th in the conference and 250th in the nation. Even their 6'11 guy off the bench Frederiko Frederiko (the name so nice they named him twice) doesn't block shots in his 19 minutes/game.
Take care of the ball, they're also 15th in the conference in steals. Don't give them any extra possessions they don't earn.
Their starting 5 is 6'9 JT Toppin who can lights out rebound, he also takes the bulk of their 2pt FG's and is averaging 17 points with 9 boards. Oddly enough he shoots 3's at 37% on the road but he doesn't take very many and is only 29% on the year. Hunter has a massive size advantage here if he wants to play down low. Flory should be able to disrupt his game as well, he might even be a better defensive matchup.
Their PG is Elijah Hawkins and he's a wild card, he averages 9 points a game and 6.5 assists, but at 5'11 160 pounds, i would hope Harris can handle him. He shoots 33% from 3 and 33% overall on the year but 45% on the road. The catch is that he's a chucker. If he's hot, he's hot but if he's not he'll still keep shooting like he is. Harass him on the 3 point line and he should be well contained.
They had two players out last night vs Houston who account for 30ppg. The first is Darrion Williams who is their 6'6 forward, he's the only other player who consistently gets shots in the paint let alone 2 point shots at all. He averages 15 points and 5 rebounds, but almost 3 turnovers/game on the road. Depending with what lineup Tech goes with, KJ or Flory would be a good matchup for him and really one of them should be on him at at all times. I think he could be trouble for Griffen and would be trouble for AJ.
The other injured player is 6'3 Chance McMillian - certified assassin. He shoots 45% from 3 and 53% overall while averaging 15 points a game. We're probably better off having Juan guard him than Mayo, which means we'll have to test our luck with Mayo on Hawkins and hope Hawkins has a bad day. Chance typically gets his stats, but we can't let him get 4 or 5 threes which he's very capable of. Chase him off the line, but don't help and leave shooters open for him to dish to and we might be alright.
If Mcmillian can't go then Christian Anderson will probably get the start. He's average 29 minutes/game off the bench and scoring 10 points. He shoots 40% from 3, he's a hell of a weapon off the bench although he was 0-6 from 3 and 2-11 overall vs Houston last night.
I also have no idea what i'm talking about, i'm just bored at work.
