Hats off to Dajuan Harris on the eve of his final game at Allen Fieldhouse. In his first year I remember Coach Self saying he would end up being a fan favorite. He’s definitely become one of my favorite Jayhawk PGs of the past 30 years. It’s Senior Night tomorrow—thanks for a memorable career, Juan.
While defending him against haters and trolls, I'VE been called a troll by people here who call themselves Jayhawk fans. An unfortunate aspect of human nature is our inability to recognize our own limitations. The emphatic, foot-stomping insistence that Dajuan is not a good player is a great example of this. I feel sorry for those "fans". I certainly wouldn't enjoy watching basketball at all if I saw it through their lens. I imagine it's a bit like watching pickleball.
Juan has such a creative, unique style of play. As a pass-first point guard myself, I’ve always appreciated pure guards. He has a remarkable knack for reading and analyzing the floor in realtime. His basketball IQ is superb. If he had a better jumper and was bigger or stronger, sure he’d excel more in finishing plays. But those changes might also alter the essence of his game. People often want him to be something he’s not.
It’s unfortunate that the team hasn’t performed great overall, preventing us from witnessing his full potential. I really thought he had a chance of being the league’s DPOY again. Hope we see his best during these last games.
Bill Self: “I think it’s pretty evident how valuable Juan is after watching our ball handling and getting us into offense and defense.”
T.J. Otzelberger: “He’s an elite competitor, winner, he’s a guy you want on your team, no question about it.”
Kelvin Sampson: “There’s not a point guard I respect more in the country than Dajuan Harris. Just a winner.”
