One of the things myself and others who are for far stricter gun regulations argue is by allowing people to carry in public, it opens up so many more opportunities for people to be hurt and killed. To sum up this instance: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/articl...ul-death-lawsuit-north-carolina?origin=web-hf shots rang out at a memorial service, and a young man ran out to help people get cover in a church. A plain clothed cop saw him and killed him. The family says he wasn't holding a gun, but the cop says he saw a gun on the kid. The only person killed during the shooting was the good samaritan.

There have been other instances of cops killing armed people thinking they were the bad guys, when in fact they weren't. If the cop's defense in this instance is, "I thought he had a gun," doesn't that indicate we're better off not having everyone carrying? Because if he felt justified killing a man merely because he had a gun in a shooting situation, what will that do for other situations? The grand jury agreed that in a shooting situation, cops are justified killing basically anyone they see with a gun. And what if another person at the memorial had a gun and killed the cop because they didn't know he was a 'good guy'?

So, how do we handle this? Do we just assume that the likelihood of innocent people and good samaritans being killed will go up so everyone can carry? Do we need to stop the new laws and roll back the ones that allow for more open or concealed carry?
