The so-called national emergency called by Trump on our southern border will boomerang on the Republican Party just as Harry Reid’s emasculation of the filibuster rule came to haunt the Democrats. I’m already hearing that if a Democrat wins the POTUS election in 2020, she/he will give Congress little time to act on climate change before declaring a national emergency and acting unilaterally. It takes little imagination to see where this might go. It won’t likely include most of the AOC/Markey Green New Deal - neither the money nor the technical ability is there to pay for it even with tax increases on the rich and Wall Street. But it will include some WW2 type Executive Orders expanding government into areas of the economy unheard of since that time.
