Hey all,
I just wanted to let you all know that Matthew Hurt, the 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward from John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minn., is scheduled to officially visit Kansas this weekend. I exchanged a few text messages with his father, Richard Hurt, who confirmed that Matthew, the No. 7 ranked player in the 2019 class, will be in Lawrence this weekend.
Quite honestly, I can’t remember the last time Bill Self and his staff hosted such an important recruit for an official visit. When it comes to Hurt, it gets no bigger in terms of his value in the 2019 class.
There isn’t a school that has recruited Hurt as long as Kansas and, if you ask me, Kansas still remains the team to beat going into the visit. Bill Self and his staff, long ago, make it clear that Hurt was a top-priority and that never changed.
The relationship between Hurt (and his family) and Self is as strong as possible and the fact that Self coached Hurt during USA basketball only helps. Hurt and his family are familiar with Self and his staff and there is, without question, a great level of comfort between Hurt and his family and Self.
I’ve long maintained that Kansas is the team to beat for Matthew Hurt, and those feelings haven’t changed. I think Kansas has a golden opportunity to seal the deal with Hurt this weekend.
