As most of you know, Elmarko Jackson, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo-guard from South Kent (CT) is in Lawrence this weekend for the start of his official visit. Jackson, the No. 63 ranked player in the 203 class, is officially down to Kansas, Miami, Notre Dame, Villanova, Texas, Virginia, and UCLA. I need to add that the current head coach at South Kent, Raphael Chillious, worked with Coach Joe Dooley at East Carolina University, so that's something to keep an eye on when it comes to KU's recruitment of Jackson. Having Dooley back on KU's staff can only help with Jackson.
So, as most of you already know, Jackson, a four-star prospect, doesn't do many interviews. I've talked to him a couple of times and exchanged a few text messages, but he's done a pretty good job of keeping his recruitment, especially when it comes to visits, under wraps. I do know that Coach Bill Self and Coach Norm Roberts have invested a ton of time recruiting Jackson. In fact, when I first spoke to Jackson a few months ago, he was just getting ready to call Coach Roberts and have a talk.
I can tell you with supreme confidence that Jackson is very much a priority for Kansas. I mean, this is a player that the staff absolutely wants. If Jackson called up and wanted to commit after his visit, that commitment would be gladly accepted. Also, and I think we can all agree, the staff picked a perfect weekend to bring Jackson in for his official visit. Lawrence is going to be absolutely crazy this weekend and "The Booth" is going to be like nothing Kansas fans have seen in a long time.
I've made some calls and I'm still waiting to hear back from a few people, but I think that it's safe to say that Kansas has positioned itself quite well. One guy I just talked to said he thinks it will be Kansas for Jackson when all is said and done. "Where else is he going to go," he said.
Again, that's not coming from me, but from a source that I trust. I do believe that Kansas has positioned itself quite well. The coaching staff has an opportunity to really make a statement with Jackson visiting Kansas this weekend.
