By my count at least 16 Democratic Socialists won their elections, including one who unseated house majority whip in VA without any help from the Democratic Party (he opposed a pipleline the Dems along w/ the Rs support; he was too progressive AKA actually left of center). In VA they also elected the first open transgender.
However, most of these were unknowns in areas with little spotlight and next to no budget for advertising; they benefited from Trump's record-low approval ratings, as history will show when one party takes the WH, the next elections up to the midterms will show a bump or a wave for the opposing party.
Unfortunately for the Democrats, they have changed nothing within their party and are doubling down on the same old same same old that got Trump in office in the first place and are largely seeing last nights success as validation.
It will be interesting to see what happens next year with the DNC still alienating everyone yet Trump keeps digging a hole to seemingly impossible new lows - advantage democrats would be my take.
IIRC the DNC only elects their Chair if they don't have the WH, if a progressive or even a centrist who's open to reform takes the WH in 2020 he/she could appoint a party Chair that is interested in rebuilding the party and state legislatures ground up instead of pilfering the coffers and selling the nomination to the highest bidder again.
