It is certainly invigorating to actually have commits this time of year with seemingly more on the way. Remember last year when we had none? Anyways, here are some quick thoughts/facts/comments about each our current commits (order of commitment date).
Trevor Kardell - Not much new on him--no new offers or camp stats, but he and Huggins are keys to transitioning this offense from the "Fail Raid" to true RPO/modern style of offense. Do you treat them as WR's, TE's, FB's, will be difficult questions for defensive coaches to answer.
Will Huggins - Ran a 4.84 40, 4.44 shuttle, 30 inch vertical and measured a legit 234 pounds and 6 foot 6 inches at the Opening on 4/14. He had a strong showing at the camp, proving, like Kardell what a difficult matchup he'll be. Neither Kardell or Huggins "lumber" in and out of breaks. At those dimensions, he's got all-Big 12 1st team potential and he received an Okie St offer--more could come.
Davonshai Harden - Has an offer from KSU. No public camp stats available. Might be a QB, might be a Safety/LB hybrid, but regardless, he's got great feet and good size.
Duece Mayberry - Ran a 4.63 40, 4.21 shuttle, and recorded a 34 inch vert at the Opening camp. Has a couple other G5 and FCS offers, but someone said earlier on the boards that his transcript may be what's holding other teams back. Certainly bigger than his brother and seems to have made quite a few plays for Owasso last year.
Kyler Pearson - We can all see what appear to be size and top-end speed limitations. But if his personality, work ethic, and feel for the game were impressive enough paired with a sub 4.50 40 and pretty impressive production at Union for Les Miles and co., that's good enough for me. Furthermore, he's a perfect candidate to gray shirt. He reminds me some of Curry Sexton who did big things at K-State... he was a gray shirt.
Jaylin Richardson - What a projectable athlete--love this get. I imagine he's only scratching the surface of his potential. He's got very quick feet for a guy his size. Comp may be a mix of Jon Cornish and Sewo Olonilua. 40-time on 247 was from early in 2018--I'd throw it out. Ryan Wallace of GPC said he ran a 4.52--that would be incredible. My guess is he's closer to 4.65. His LB film was posted and its better than his RB film.
Khari Coleman - Ran a 4.74 40 and a 4.50 shuttle and 29 inch vertical at the Opening on 3/10. Had offers to other P5 like Tennessee, BC, K-State, and WVU. Will either be a rush edge specialist that will cause issues on 3rd down or could be an every down OLB.
Krishawn Brown - 10th rated prospect in OK and comes from a great school w/ tremendous production. Plays End and OLB but could play in the middle if needed. He's a smaller LB now, but he doesn't shy away from contact. Triggers great. Offers from OK State too.
Luke Grimm - Measured 6'0 175 lbs at the Opening on 4/14. Ran 4.60 40 w/ 4.08 shuttle plus a 33 inch vertical. FCS and MAC level offers but evidently had a great camp at KU. Could play WR or S. 7 on 7 camp videos look great, but junior film is less impressive. Willbe interesting to see his senior tape.
Garrett Jones - No public camp results. Visited Michigan St camp (no offer) and played OL & DL this summer. Offers from a few G5 schools. Film shows a nimble, aggressive athlete who could be a starting guard or even Center in a few years if he can hold ~25-30 more pounds.
Jacobee Bryant - By far the highest rated commit KU has snagged to date and his offer list will show why: Ole Miss, Tenn, Kent, Va Tech, Ga Tech, Neb, etc. Borderline 4-star CB. Attended Rivals 5-star camp in March but no public data. Film shows a long, athletic, instinctual, and physical corner. Top-end speed is likely only Q. Will be a huge coup to hold onto.
Malik Johnson - The gamebreaking Athlete in the class. A "B" version of Corey Wren (UGA commit and longtime KU target). Offers to K-State, Colorado, Tx Tech, and other G5 schools. Production per 247 is surprisingly less than you'd expect (only 413 yards receiving last year) but that may not include KR and PR. Will be interested to track his production on Friday night's, and in the long-term, see if he or Velton Gardner make more of an impact.
Tommy Brandt - Offers to Air Force and Rice. Attended Minnesota camp in June 2019 (no offer), and not highly rated but on Coach Meadows' target list for awhile including a KU offer in Feb 2019. Ideally will be an OT, but may be able to guard too. Likely program player.
Nicholas Martinez - Reported offer to Arizona State and then other FCS and UAB (odd). Reported a 5.67 40, 5.08 shuttle, 21 inch vert, 310 pounds at 6'5 at the 2/10/19 Opening. He's legit gigantic. Unlike other OL commits, weight/size is not a concern--it is length and overall athleticism to play at T.
Caleb Taylor - Offers from Illinois, Iowa State, and other high-level G5 programs. Reported a 5.15 40, 4.65 shuttle, 26.3 vertical, 244 pounds and measuring 6'4 at the 4/14/19 Opening. Versatile DL that could play anywhere from a 4i to tight 9. Heavy-handed and good feet. Moving to KC from StL. Will contribute right away. Even his stance screams athleticism.
Kenean Caldwell - Offers to Oregon, TCU, Colorado, Ole Miss, A&M and a host of G5. Rare commit who's more highly rated (and deservedly so) on 247 than Rivals. Reported a 5.68 40, 4.88 shuttle and 26 inch vert at the 3/3/19 Opening. Listed at 300 pounds but does not look like he has a belly. You grab a DaJon Terry, and Caldwell in each class and your run defense will get better.
Juan Jarrett - Offer to Ga Tech, and a few other G5 schools. Ran a 4.8 40, 4.27 shuttle, 36.4 in vert, weighing 185 pounds and measuring 6'1.5 at the 3/31/19 Opening. Big Q is what position does he project to. Might be too slight to play LB but not quite fast enough to be S. Ideally he's a hybrid LB/S prospect in a Bryce Torneden mold.
Taiwan Berryhill - Offer to Tenn, UVA, Indiana and other G5 schools. One of our more highly rated commits. Reported a 4.79 40, 4.31 shuttle, and 34.5 inch vert at the 3/10/19 Opening. Long and lean athlete--would love to have had his actual weight cause he looks 15-20 pounds heavier than Jarrett but basically the same measurables. An ideal Big 12 OLB.
Daniel Hishaw - Offers to Nevada, North Texas, USM and several other G5's, but no P5's. Reportedly close to a TCU and OSU offer. Ran a 4.65 40, 4.12 shuttle, 35.6 inch vert, weighing 207 pounds at 5'10 at the 3/3/19 Regional. Could see him playing RB, H-Back, LB, or Safety--definition of Athlete. Has been key to turning around a perennial loser--local accounts of him being a winner and a "smart football" player.
Lawrence Arnold - Offers to Oregon, Northwestern, Mizzou, K-State, Iowa State, but interestingly no Texas schools reported. Regardless, ran a 4.74 40, a 4.37 shuttle, 33. 9 inch vert, weighing 181 pounds at 6'3.5 at the 3/3/19 Opening regional. Comes from a Texas powerhouse and does everything well. Caught 41 passes with 8 TD's last year, but is a willing blocker and special teams contributor. One of the more highly recruited recruits we landed.
Brennon Scott - Offers to everyone: Texas, USC, Auburn, Oregon, Oklahoma, LSU, Mizzou, K-State, Nebraska, A&M, Florida and others. One of the most highly recruited defensive players to commit to KU in last couple decades. No combine stats but film shows an explosive, fast twitch, aggressive linebacker that despite being a big guy plays mostly on the outside. Likely figures to be an inside linebacker and immediate contributor.
Chris Jones - Offers from FSU, Minnesota, Maryland, Nebraska, Pitt, and others. No combine stats but JK noted in an earlier notebook that he stood out at the KU 1-day camp. Film shows an explosive, rangy athlete that is Azur Kamara 2.0. Will be a terror off the edge.
Tanner Hooker - Offers from K-State, Colorado, Indiana, Tulane, Arkansas State, SMU, and Tulsa. I think he's a legit 6'0, 175 from watching the tape. Rangy corner that could maybe play safety. Top end speed would be primary question mark (no verifiable combine stats), but physicality is not one. Really nice victory over K-State for his talents.
Alonzo Person - Offers to numerous Pac-12 schools including Arizona, ASU, Oregon, and others like Illinois and Nevada. Ran a 4.83 40, 4.65 shuttle, jumped 28 inches, while weighing 215 pounds at 6'3 at the Opening on 2/10/19. Seems to be quicker than fast in his film which is a perfect fit for a guy who projects to be an OLB who could cover in space.
Steven McBride- Smooth operating WR that is clean in and out of breaks. Seems to play bigger than his height/weight. Had FCS and G5 offers besides KU, but UVA and Wake Forest added offers soon after he committed. Clearly replaced Hambrick for a WR spot. Ran a 4.62 40, 4.56 shuttle, jumped 35 inches, measured 6'0 and 153 pounds at the 3/10/19 Opening. Likely has PR/KR capabilities in college.

Comments on previously committed players:
Keith Miller - now Committed to Colorado. Ran a 4.73 40, 4.63 shuttle, and weighed 201 pounds at 6'2 at an Opening camp. Has numerous P5 and G5 offers. Surprised his shuttle time was that slow, but he's likely the most polished of the receivers we have. A true X receiver with nice hands. I imagine the reasons he has so many offers as compared to our other WR/TE commits is that he looks so natural at the position.
Kershawn Fisher - De-committed on 8/3/19. He participated in the LA Opening but no measurables are on his 247 profile. K-State Offer and a horde of G5 offers. He's completely miscast at his current HS position of 5 technique, and is certainly going to be an outside LB / Edge rusher. Think of him as a longer version of Kyler Johnson. Not the most physical player... yet.
Keenan Hambrick - De-committed 10/16/19. Has legit G5 offers, but we're his only P5 offer. Ran a 4.41 shuttle, and recorded at 35.6 inch vertical at an Opening camp. Measured a legit 6'3.5 and 194 pounds. May not be faster than a 4.65 guy, but very fluid for a guy of his size. Kind of reminds me of James Terry from Kansas State about 15 years ago. **Postscript**-Seemingly was passed over by Steven McBride to which I would agree on that evaluation.
Jackson Stoefen - De-committed 11/11/19. Weighed 271 and measure 6'5, while running a 5.22 shuttle, 5.61 40, and a 19 inch vertical at the Opening. He's got the frame to be a contributor, but its going to be 2-3 years before he's ready to be a plus contributor. Has legit G5 offers, but no other P5 offers.
