Just got home from the KU football gathering at Larry Bud's in Wichita tonight. The place was full and Banks Floodman, Sheahon Zenger and Coach Beaty all did a great job. I already was liking the direction Beaty is taking us but after listening to him tonight I'm a firm believer.

He strikes me as a coach who understands the need for extreme attention to detail. Spent quite a bit of time talking about special teams, need for creating turnovers, not making our own turnovers and no penalties.

Some highlights:

1. Said the walk-on program was full "there are no spots left" and he's very excited about the quality of players in the walk-on program.

2. They will play the best players and will not redshirt a player if he can help right away.

3. All the coaches are recruiters and teachers. Obviously very excited about luring Perry and Likens to KU. He alluded to the fact the recruitment of Perry took awhile but he's thrilled to get Perry to KU.

4. He and Zenger seem to be on the same sheet when it comes to just perform and don't talk about your accomplishments.

5. Floodman said for the first time to his knowledge all the FB coaches have joined the Williams Fund - Beaty encouraged them to because he "knew how much they were paid".

6. Said he doesn't know the personnel well enough yet to say which units might surprise us next year.

7. It's obvious why he's such a good recruiter because the guy has passion and gets you excited.

I haven't felt this good about KU football since 2008-09.
