aka The Jayhawk Cafe. Hard choice for the second in our bar stories series. I considered The Wheel for it's iconic status as well as Gammons for the amounts of money I spent there. So many good choices that I hope someone else will pick in future days.
The Hawk: A freshman tradition. Probably the first bar I ever went to at KU. Barrel Night (Buy the glass for $5 and refill it for a $1 one night a week. I still have the barrel I bought in 1984. The Count (dressed up as Dracula on Halloween and owned a house that my friends rented (1201 Kentucky). Almost got in a fight with a baseball player bouncer who I smarted off to when he tried to take my drink during closing time. Stole a keg from the garden. Played elbow tiddy with hundreds of hot freshman girls. Good times.
