In case you didn't really notice, the Trump administration and it supporters in Congress just argued, in essence, that the President is above the law and is virtually untouchable.

The philosophical underpinnings of Barr's arguments are the President can not be indicted nor held legally accountable for any action he takes. Since he is the President, what he does is above legal rebuke.

At the same time, Trump is thwarting Congressional oversight on a level unseen in modern US history. This was the Constitutionally stated method for hemming in a President - checks and balances through Congressional oversight. If the GOP doesn't stand up or the Ds don't win and Trump relents, this is where we are left: A President who can not be stopped legally, and can not be overseen Congressionally.

That is not only a complete destruction of the underpinnings of the checks and balances of the Constitution - the core of our Const. - but it leads to a situation that should scare everyone because eventually a D or R that is President and has a more competent administration will have the freedom and ability to act like a dictator for 4-8 years.
