The US sits at a crossroads right now about whether we will continue to function as an America we grew up knowing, or descend down the waterslide to broken nation. It's not hard for anyone who knows history to see parallels between what Trump/Republicans stirred up, and many of the authoritarian/fascist factions that destroyed previous nations. If the GOP continues to foment conspiracies and hatred then that is precisely where we are headed. If the guiding light of the GOP is a McConnell, Hawley, Cruz, or Jordan, the nation as a whole is doomed. We have already seen one failed insurrection, and if we have political seditionists continue to claim our democracy is a sham, it's a very small step to, 'so make me permanent leader'.
This isn't doom and gloom or Chicken Little. As the saying goes, history may not repeat itself, but it does rhyme. We are seeing the chords struck that lead to ruined nations. Frankly, the choice is up to the Republicans.
