Dear Jayhawk Fan,
It is with great pleasure that I reach out to you today. As many of you have heard or read in the last 24 hours, we have announced a plan to renovate Memorial Stadium. This massive project – with an estimated cost upwards of $300 million – will position Kansas football as a national leader among conference and power five programs for generations to come.
Thanks to the hard work, creativity, and innovation of HNTB in Kansas City, we will have finalized renderings in three weeks and will release them, along with more specific details of this project, to the public in September. The goal for completing this project is to use a phased approach spanning 3-5 years.
Currently, we are concentrating on segments that will directly impact our football student-athletes, as evidenced by the newly renovated locker room, players’ lounge, Mrkonic Auditorium and outdoor practice fields. Next on the list will include the construction of an indoor football facility, which we have needed for decades and will enhance our team's ability to more effectively prepare for games.
The fan-amenity phase of Memorial Stadium Renovations will focus on improving hospitality spaces for season ticket holders at many price points. These amenities will make coming to Memorial Stadium a more special, extraordinary experience.
As I have stated before with great enthusiasm, it is a special time to be a Jayhawk! With the recent announcement of new Chancellor Dr. Douglas Girod and the remarkable construction all over our campus, there is a great deal of excitement surrounding KU. The announcement of this project only adds to that excitement.
With the deck of all other facilities projects cleared, our attention is solely focused on helping elevate our football program. We will use multiple revenue streams to fund this large-scale project; chief among them will be the philanthropic support of our donors and fans. I cannot overstate the importance of your role as loyal Jayhawks in the completion of this endeavor. We will need your help and support to make this plan a reality.
