is very interesting. Sure, we are making less than the B1G and SEC, but we also have more opportunity for success.

There seems to always be an active thread talking about HCLL or OCAK leaving for a "better" job. However, the definition of better is a bit of a gray area. Both are being paid pretty well at KU, but there are obviously programs that can pay more. The rub is that the programs that pay more tend to expect more and also tend to be in conference situations that are tougher.

If they want to win ball games, have chance at conference titles, and have chance at making the playoff, they are arguably in a better spot at KU than they would be at many of the supposed upgrades.

aTm would pay more, but they are going to be playing UT, LSU, UGA, Bama, and other pretty good SEC teams every year. With the number of teams in the conference they will not see all the top teams every year, but the path to a conference title is pretty rough. The B1G is a bit easier as the middle of the conference isn't as strong as the SEC, but tOSU, UM, and PSU at the top is a pretty big hurdle for MSU, NU, or Wisky.

If LL and AK just want a bigger check and the ability to say they are in a P2 conference, then our days are numbered with regard to retaining them, but that has not appeared to be their focus to this point in their careers. Moving forward it is Utah, Arizona, CU, KSU, OSU, and ISU standing between us and conference titles. That seems much more manageable than tOSU/MU/PSU and UGA/Bama/LSU/UT.

Miss State, aTm, Vandy, really most of the SEC jobs are pressure cookers Their fans expect results, but the conference slate is a blood bath. UF, Tenn, Auburn, SC have fantastic recruiting situations and financial support, and they have been wandering around, middle of the pack, for quite a while. Everyone in the B1G is basically playing for third place every year behind tOSU and Mich.

Our guys can recruit, they can coach, and we have (or will have) great facilities. With the new playoff format in place, and KU willing to pay good (maybe not great), staying put is a pretty nice balance of compensation and opportunity for success.
