Our Jayhawk Nation laments the end of this year's journey. Our expectations were stoked with how our team stormed the Big XII to take the title. The Big Dance always exposes weaknesses. Because we had 5 awesome starters this season, we could usually cover our depth weakness to pull out multiple victories. When one of the 5 had an off day, lack of depth was much tougher to hide but, even then, we still managed to cover it up. Multiple issues contributed to yesterday's loss-rebounding, missed free throws, costly turnovers, missing our brilliant head coach (that almost always makes the correct adjustments when things aren't going well). But when KJ and Udeh went out with foul troubles so early in the second half, you could sense it was uh-oh time. We had no bench help-5 points and numerous fouls of no help. When you look back at our losses, lack of depth seemed to be a key contributor and yesterday was no exception. Tennessee, Texas (twice), and Arkansas really showed that. All that being said, we had a good year despite not achieving our expectations in the end. So, what's next? Personally, I hope Gradey sticks around for next year. When watching several NBA games recently, the sheer size and strength of those guys is downright scary. Gradey will eventually make it if he's not broken first but an extra year at KU would help (if he can put aside the big payout for another year). I would like to see KJ at forward, Udeh at center with Zach and Ejiofor mixing at the other forward and back up center. Looks like our guard situation is covered with Harris and new guys and hopefully, Yesefu and/or BP will develop if they don't transfer. That being said, we need another big guy that we can count on for solid minutes. Lightfoot was always dependable as a back-up for McCormick but nobody was dependable this year. That should hopefully change with the development within the system. Aren't we lucky to have had so much fun with this team?!!
