There's been much discussion about the need to hit the portal next year for an experienced QB. That may be harder than it sounds. I borrowed the below from the Nebraska board (they are in desparate need of a portal QB as well.) What it shows is that of the top 30 portal QBs from this past season only a very small handful are performing better than they did at their previous schools (where they were backups or had lost their starting positions). "Hitting" on a portal QB is not an exact science by any means.

1. Sam Hartman (5th yr SR) - 7-3 record - 62.8%, 2,272 yards, 18 TD, 7 INT. After throwing for 38 and 39 TDs last two years at Wake, he's on pace to significantly underperform those numbers.

2. Devin Leary (5th yr SR) - 6-3 record - 57.4%, 1,905 yards, 18 TD, 7 INT. Kentucky is significantly worse this year than last, and Leary is nowhere close to his 2021 production at NC St

3. Brennan Armstrong (6th yr SR) - 6-3 record - 58.8%, 971 yards, 5 TD, 6 INT. Armstrong is nowhere close to his 2021 production at UVA.

4. Tanner Mordecai (6th yr SR) - 5-4 record - 63.7%, 1,127 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT. Nowhere close to his production at SMU.

5. DJ Uiagalelei (4th yr JR) - 7-2 record - 58.3%, 2,014 yards, 18 TD, 4 INT. Having his best season and his team is in the mix for a conference championship.

6. Sam Jackson V (3rd yr SO) - 3-6 record - 53.1%, 556 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT. Hasn't played since Sept 30th, got benched after frequent bouts of being hurt (not injured).

7. Brady Allen (2nd yr FR) - hasn't played, followed Brohm from Purdue to L'ville.

8. Hudson Card (4th yr JR) - 2-7 record - 57.8%, 1,861 yards, 9 TD, 8 INT. Worst season of his career by far.

9. Tayven Jackson (2nd yr FR) - 3-6 record (2-3 as starter) - 60.9%, 914 yards, 2 TD, 5 INT. Hasn't played since 10/14.

10. Shedeur Sanders (3rd yr JR) - 4-5 record - 70.1%, 2,882 yards, 24 TD, 3 INT. Easily the best stats of the transfers, but little chance CU makes a bowl game and obviously a packaged deal with his father.

11. Payton Thorne (4th yr JR) - 5-4 record - 63.9%, 1,269 yards, 10 TD, 6 INT. Nowhere close to his 2021 production as a RS FR at MSU.

12. Kedon Slovis (5th yr SR) - 5-4 record - 57.5%, 1,716 yards, 12 TD, 6 INT. Nowhere close to his 2019 production as a true frosh at USC.

13. Nick Evers (2nd yr FR - has not played a down for Wisconsin

14. Jacolby Criswell (4th yr JR) - has thrown 2 passes for 3-6 Arkansas

15. Spencer Sanders (5th yr SR) - appeared in 5 games, started zero for Ole Miss

16. Jeff Sims (4th yr JR) - we have seen what he's done this season

17. Cade McNamera (4th yr SR) - 51.1%, 505 yards, 4 TD, 3 INT. Played only 5 games.

18. Phil Jurkovec (6th yr SR) - 2-7 record - 50.9%, 818 yards, 6 TD, 3 INT. Has not played since 9/30.

19. Emory Jones (6th yr SR) - 2-7 record - 60.8%, 1,818 yards, 14 TD, 10 INT, 446 rush yds, 3 TD. Nowhere close to his 2021 production at Florida.

20. Chance Nolan (4th yr JR) - left TCU program before the season even started

21. Walker Howard (2nd yr FR) - has played 1 game at Ole Miss

22. Ben Bryant (6th yr SR) - 4-5 record - 59%, 926 yards, 6 TD, 3 INT. Nowhere close to his production the last 2 years at Cincy.

23. Casey Thompson

24. Graham Mertz (5th yr JR) - 5-4 record - 73.9%, 2,409 yards, 17 TD, 2 INT. Enjoying by far his best season statistically but not translating into wins in the SEC East.

25. Jake Garcia (3rd yr SO) - Has not played a snap at Mizzou

26. Sawyer Robertson (2nd yr SO) - 3-6 record - 49.5%, 647 yards, 1 TD, 4 INT. Began the year as Baylor's starter, has been benched.

27. Braedyn Locke (2nd yr FR) - 5-4 record - 50%, 777 yards, 5 TD, 1 INT. Took over for Mordecai, just lost to Indiana.

28. Jack Plummer (5th yr JR) - 8-1 record - 65.3%, 2159 yards, 14 TD, 8 INT. Similar stats to what he'd put up at Cal, has Louisville in the ACC title discussion.

29. Donovan Smith (3rd yr JR) - 4-5 record - 65.9%, 2,303 yards, 18 TD, 7 INT. Having his second best season, near his production 2 years ago as a true frost at TTech.

30. Luke Altmyer (3rd yr SO) - 4-5 record - 64.8%, 1,889 yards, 13 TD, 10 INT. Leading B1G in INT, we destroyed him.
