Now before people read this and jump down my throat. I do of course recognize that Bill Self is the undisputed best coach in the country and so much more....
BUT, he has had a MASSIVE problem the recruiting of high-ranking, immediate impact shooting / combo guards. Let's look at the past 5 years including this one. Again, I'm NOT talking about guys like Och who were developed over 3-4 seasons. I'm talking about guys that we expect to come in and help the team win as freshman.
2023-24: Elmarko Jackson - #20 Recruit in the Nation. 5.4 PPG / 35% FG / 29% 3-PT .... Has not scored in two straight games and looks completely overmatched against Power 5 competition
2022-23: MJ Rice - #29 Recruit in the Nation. 2.2 PPG / 41% FG / 20% 3-PT. Transferred Out.
2022-23: Gradey Dick - #28 Recruit in the Nation. 14.1 PPG / 44% / 40% 3-PT …. Not sure if you would call Gradey a 2-Guard but for the sake of challenging my own argument, let’s put him in here.
2021-22: NA
2020-21: Bryce Thompson - #20 Recruit in the Nation. 4.6 PPG / 35% FG / 22% 3-PT. Transferred Out.
2019-20: NA
2018-19: Quentin Grimes – Top 10 Recruit in the Nation. 8.4 PPG / 38 FG% / 34% 3-PT. Transferred Out.

For shits and giggles…. Let’s include some of the transfers we’ve gotten at the 2-guard that we thought would be immediate contributors.
2023-24: Nick Timberlake. 3.8 PPG / 34% FG / 28% 3-PT
2021-23: Joseph Yesufu. 69 Games. 3.1 PPG / 35.7% FG / 28% 3-PT. Transferred Out.
2020-21: Tyon Grant-Foster: 3.1 PPG / 39% / 13% 3-PT. Transferred Out.
2019-20: Isaiah Moss: 7.9 PPG / 39% FG / 35%. Graduated. (Not saying Moss was bad, just another data point)
2018-19: Charlie Moore: 2.9 PPG / 29% FG / 27% 3-PT. Transferred Out.
