-- I said before the game that today’s game against Stanford wasn’t a “must win”, but it was certainly a game Kansas needed to win after suffering a heartbreaking loss to No. 18 ranked Villanova last Saturday. Stanford couldn’t buy a shot early and Kansas had a chance to blow the game wide-open, but turnovers, missed layups, and a number of missed shots prevented Kansas from delivering the knockout blow in the first half. Up by seven points with the final seconds ticking off the clock, Isaiah Moss drilled a three from the corner and KU led by 10 at the half.
In the second half, Kansas led by as many as 22 points and really kept Stanford at arm’s length. Early in the second half, Stanford cut the deficit to nine points, but the Cardinal would get no closer. Make no mistake about it, this was a big win for Kansas. With Big 12 play coming up, Kansas will play host to West Virginia next weekend coming off a big road win.

-- Isaiah Moss picked the perfect game to have his coming out party since transferring in from the University of Iowa. Moss, in 27 minutes of action, scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down three rebounds. Offensively, Moss hit 6-of-12 field goals and was 4-of-7 from behind the arc. If I’m not mistaken, Moss hit back-to-back threes in the second half to really open up the game for Kansas.

-- Sophomore guard Devon Dotson really had a rough outing overall, but he made some plays late in the game and was great at getting to the basket. In 32 minutes, Dotson scored 14 points, pulled down four rebounds, dished out three assists and finished with two turnovers. For the game, Dotson shot 5-of-15 from the field, was 0-of-4 from behind the arc, and was perfect from the free-throw (4-of-4) line. On a number of occasions, Stanford made a mini run, but Dotson would get to the basket and either convert or got fouled.

-- Ochai Agbaji added 14 points, Marcus Garrett chipped in 12 points and Christian Braun was huge off the bench with 9 points. Braun, for the game, was 3-of-4 from behind the arc and looked extremely comfortable on the court. Garrett, in 31 minutes, hit 5-of-8 field goals, 2-of-2 shots from the free-throw line, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out four assists. Kansas, with Marcus on the court, is, without question, a much, much, much better team. Agbaji wasn’t at his best, but he did hit 5-of-11 field goals, 2-of-6 threes and 2-of-4 free-throws.

-- It was a frustrating day for KU’s big men. Udoka Azubuike, David McCormack, and Silvio De Sousa combined for just four points and 17 rebounds. David was 0-1 from the field, Azubuike was 1-of-2 and 0-of-5 from the free-throw line, and De Sousa was 1-of-2 from the field. Moving forward, that simply can’t happen.

-- Lastly, I thought Kansas was absolutely sensational on the defensive end of the court. Kansas defended and rebounded and never really gave Stanford any good looks. The Cardinal shot just 19-of-50 (38%) from the field and 6-of-20 (30%) from behind the arc. Kansas dominated the glass, 44-25, and dished out 13 assists to 21 turnovers.I
