Are starting to potentially have an impact on things like our football program in the future, too. Not that KU has ever pulled a ton of kids out of the 501 district in Topeka- the last one of note that I can remember was probably Tremaine Fulton (although Plump is a 501 kid right now, too- just a walk-on)- but the Superintendent of 501 is starting to openly talk about the possibility of cutting sports programs in the district at some or all levels as a way to fill the funding gap that will be left behind by the new budget passed by our legislature. I am quite confident that they won't be the last district to at least look at this as an option, either, given the degree of cuts some districts are facing.

Not intending for this to become a discussion of the wisdom or lack thereof of the state's political policy making. More interested to see whether this sort of decision, and the potential upstream impact it might have on the athletic programs at places like KU and KSU and Wichita State, all of whom draw heavily on the state high schools for athletes in many of their programs, might impact the state policy making at some point.
