Not pressured in the sense of "take the offer now or it is gone," but pressured (including their HS coaches) in the sense of KU putting the time and effort into the state that no other program is, so they deserve the top local kids?
Now we have heard the arguments before that KU doesn't recruit the state well, although this staff is out offering any other program for local guys, so don't buy that for this particular staff. We have also heard the argument that local kids want to get away and/or the negative local press plays a role (as in it is easier sometimes to get TX kids than KS kids because of this). We have heard the arguments that when KU wins, these kids will come here.
All some truth to the above. However, sitting here thinking about the past couple of weeks, and when you really think about it, it is a little bit funny. The staff just completed the 2nd year of the Kansas Blast blitzing the state checking in on schools all over. They have again offered more local kids than any other program, which is really impressive when you also consider that because of the low scholarship numbers they have to offer kids that will make an impact for both the 2016 and 2017 classes as well as this past class and current class are a little bit down compared to average years in talent for the state. Combine that with KU having quite a few positional top 50 prospects from Texas for roughly the past few months, a Louisiana kid with a solid offer list, and a couple of other Texas kids with 10+ offers in Roberson and Jeffers really feeling KU...it is just funny to me.
I know building these local relationships and thus reputation will take time. I know all local HS coaches don't feel this way (as well as some recruits) about KU. I know there are a few arguments to be made here with respect to the above.
But at what point in time do local coaches (and recruits) start feeling some pressure to help KU out? For so many years we have heard second hand complaints on here that KU isn't making Kansas a priority, these kids need more offers, etc...now that you are seeing a staff make the state a priority unlike any other school, couldn't it be argued the finger should start pointing the other direction? Doesn't it make sense that KU should start getting some positive press for the effort they are putting in? If the answer is no to both of those questions, I think it could be easily argued that KU should stop putting in the effort they currently are. Because of that, I do think it can be argued that the mentality locally needs to change and that there should be some pressure on them to help out KU...
