I think there has to be a surprise or two on the OL this year. When you look at returning players, Mazyck, Gibson, Visinia, and Haughton all have started some games, but none have started an entire season.
From Spring practices, it seemed at the end the starting OL was JSS/Peters/Haughton/Visinia/Bloomfield. Of everyone, I feel like Visinia is the surest thing to start. Based on the above, I would say JSS is second most likely. Even though he isn't on there, I feel that Mazyck will be a starter as well. Although he isn't on the list, I feel like Joe Gibson will be a starter as well. So to me, that's four spots I feel we have starters at, which leaves the LG spot.
Part of me is rooting for Peters because the kid is a senior and you like to see seniors have a good senior season. That being said, I am leaning towards this spot being the surprise spot and I am going with De'Andre Banks. In his JUCO clips, I thought he was violent but struggled sustaining blocks. I felt part of that was him having too much weight on him. I thought he looked a little slimmer this past Spring, which I think will help out a ton. I think we end up seeing him start this season and next season...
So who is your surprise guy on the OL? Just doesn't have to relate to being a surprise starter, could be a guy likely to start but you think takes a huge next step and is a difference maker.
