This is going to be a tough game to evaluate because RI is so bad. We are going to blow them out on the scoreboard but that doesn't necessarily mean we've gotten better. Willis and Cozart are going to look good. We are probably going to rush for 175+ yards. We are going to have a few sacks. The big plays will happen today.

A few things I'm going to focus on that will show me whether we've improved.

1)DL- Are they doing their job?

In the opener last year our DL looked like Ramrod and I were coaching them. It was pathetic. Terrible discipline. Terrible pad level. Roaring up field and getting creased. Etc.

I don't care if they are roaring by the tackle to make a sack if on the other 9 plays of the drive they aren't doing their job. Too many people watch the wrong things with the DL. Watch for kids "doing their jobs".

2) LB- Are they over pursuing? Are they taking on blocks with the wrong arm? Are they getting to their spots on pass drops? Are they getting into the right hip on pass defense?

I don't care if we knock some guys helmet off. That doesn't mean anything. I want to see a unit that looks like it's been coached. Quite frankly we have 2 legit Big 12 LBS. They need to play like it.

3) Tackling- We need to see a team that can execute a proper tackle.

4) ST organization- I probably don't need to address this but our STs were a clown show last year thanks to Cap'n Intensity. DeForrest is a real coach so I expect these units to look organized this year.

This doesn't mean we won't shank kicks. We will. DeForrest can't kick the ball. But it does mean we will stay in our lane on KO. Block on punt team. Run 11 guys out every time. Etc.
