Yes, it could have happened after he left/retired, but here is a look at Gary Patterson's stats from his TCU page and his Wikipedia page.
Mine would include a minimum of 10+ years, multiple conference championships, over 60% bowl wins, and multiple meaningful National Coach of the Year awards.
I'll do some more numbers to come up with a minimum overall winning percentage, but at least over 50%. Patterson's worst seasons were 4 - 8 (2013), 5 - 6 (2004), and 6 - 6 (2001). His worst season was in the Big 12, but he's received over half of his wins in MWC, which is benefiting him. Beaty is starting in a worst position than Patterson, having gone 0 - 12 in Big 12 in his first ever college head coaching career.
