We are three games into the season and it already feels like perspective is being lost. All along it wasn't about this year, it was about building a foundation for the future.

And I get the frustration. Even though it has only been a month in, it has already felt like a bit of an exhausting season. Now I haven't helped myself going with the view that we were facing a big time challenge heading into the season, but also believing there are some things happening now that are good signs. With the view that we were facing a big time challenge, there was definitely some strong opposition to that view, and I understand that because people are tired of hearing how bad we are. With the view that some good things are happening right now (as in I do believe depth is being built for the future but is a few years away, encouraged Cozart has improved because to me it means Willis/Stanley will be really good), when you are staring down the barrel of a zero win season people are going to think you are full of it and that is also very understandable.

With ISU being possibly the last game we have a chance at, we are soon entering moral victory territory (if we haven't already) and that got me thinking about if I am getting a little bit exhausted now, how will I handle the entire season? I think the answer is to only look at one minor thing on the team that I think will improve and focus on that, so long as it helps for the future of the program.

For me, the "small" goal I have set is to watch the progression of Daniel Wise and expect him to be more consistent by the end of the season. This kid is really showing some sparks of being a really solid DT, but he hasn't been consistent from play to play. The kid was a 260 lbs DE last year, so this makes sense to me. You give this guy another year in the weight room and I think we have a 6' 3" 295 lbs sophomore DT who can be an anchor for the defense for the next few years. So for the rest of the season, I am going to focus on Daniel Wise to see if he becomes more consistent as the season goes along - I think he will.

What are some "small" goals you would like to see and think will happen as the season progresses?
