As America celebrated its Independence Day, it did in a way that is distinctly American: its citizens shot and killed other citizens.
It's reported that more than 220 people were killed, and over 570 were wounded over the weekend.
England, for comparison, had 107 people killed in all of 2016 (the latest data I could find), which is about average for them. That means we accomplished in one weekend what would take them multiple years.
Australia is a little more trigger happy. They accomplish what the US did in a weekend over the course of a year.
Japan, meanwhile, needs approximately 10 years to do what we did in a weekend.
Denmark, the site of a recent deadly shooting? 4 years of their gun related deaths = 1 weekend for us.
Germany gives us some saving grace. It takes them months to accomplish what we do in a weekend.
So for those arguing it's mental health: are we the only country in the industrialized world that has mental health issues? My guess: no. So it's not mental health, and we have the same video games, and their violence issues are similar by and large to ours (especially places like AUS and ENG).
Hmmmmm...this is perplexing. Why is it we are so much more gun happy in murdering and shooting than those places? If only there was an easy answer...
