Leipold: great way to get the season started and got out of it healthy and getting a lot of guys in the game. Some guys work really hard just like the starters so they got some game action.

Now the challenge gets bigger hitting the road going to Illinois.

Wheeler and Emilien are representing the team at the show. Leipold said they are two guys who represent the program well. They have had great attitudes and good work ethic even though they didn't get the early playing time they wanted.

Standing room only just a little under 21,000 and CMP seats a little over 18,000, Leipold said it was a great environment. He said the players felt it would be a good environment and how the noise stays in there.

On the defensive side they played well as a whole and were aggressive. They had good backside pursuit which is something they have worked on. Cornell Wheeler did a good job communicating.

The fumble by Skinner they felt he was down but they could not replay it because the replay system was down. Said the pick 6 by Mello was the turning point and they never looked back from there.

He said a lot of times in games where you make a lot of substitutions and play a lot of players the game can get sloppy. But that didn't happen. He felt the offense was very fluid.

Talked about Dylan Downing who got a blocked punt and talked about how he has been a solid special teams player.

Said the young lady who was hit by Hishaw (her name is Bella) Leipold said that was not a flop.

They reached out to her and she said she was impressed with the way KU has treated her and how many people have reached out. They invited her to Hawk Talk but she's a dance teacher and could not attend. She said she is okay.

Talked about last year's win over Illinois it was a nationally televised game and a great environment. Got off to a good start and built a lead at halftime. He said that thing that sticks out to him was some of the plays that Jalon Daniels made.

In the second half they didn't play as well and left some opportunities out there and let Illinois back in the game.

Said it will be a lot different environment going into Illinois they are expecting a sellout and they will be ready to play. They have improved their offensive line. Said they have to be at their best on the road to win the game.
