Noticing an advertisement the other day for new South Park season coming out, I stopped to think how long that show's freaking been on and when I first watched it.
I remembered clearly when it premiered and watching it with girlfriend at time and friends and it being the biggest thing (to me) since the Simpsons.
But nothing in the early episodes prepared me for Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo. My roomate and I had the TV on at our place with a bunch of friends ready to go hit the bars before we all headed home for Christmas break. No one was really paying attention, and then that came on. By the end of the bit, the apartment was dead silent and all our jaws were dropped and frozen. It was probably 90% of what anyone talked about the rest of the night.
Random Runner Ups:
- Survivor season 1 finale (I wasn't watching it, but everyone was dead silent and glued to the TV at the Irish Bar I was at)
- Janet Jackson Super Bowl (was at a Super Bowl party and everyone in room was "wha, huh, did we just see that? Guessing same deal for millions and millions. I think that might be a little overrated because most of all of that was just trying to figure out what the hell happened and looking at grainy pictures on people's tiny flip phone screens).
- 2009's balloon boy. I remember clearly at work "There's this kid, and he's in a balloon and he got away!" and feel like an idiot being glued to TV with my coworkers trying to figure out what happened and was going on.
But, off the top of my head, nothing probably tops that South Park episode.
