I've been saying for a while that the Republican party has become a campaign party with no ideas and no ability to govern. They have hitched their wagons to the simplest argument in an effort to divisively win elections. They lack the intellectual interest to actually govern. These past few months have made that clear as day.
The most recent example is climate change. For years I heard the right and their representatives in Congress argue against CC. As the science was shored up, they then shifted to, "why would we hurt our economy when China, India and Russia aren't doing anything." It was a shallow argument but consistent. Well, here we are in 2017 and the world is combating CC, without the US. The argument we'd do something if they did was shown to be BS.
Trump campaigned saying he'd temporarily ban 'Muslims' to impose extreme vetting. He said a threat was imminent and he'd need 90-120 days to pause immigration so he could fix the system. It's been over 120 days and he's still pushing for a ban. If the true reason was to fix the system, he's had more time than he said was necessary, but he's still pushing for a ban. Gee, I wonder why...
The GOP for over 7 years has howled that the ACA is the worst thing in the world and job #1 would be to repeal it. Well, they have the levers of power and it looks like they aren't going to do squat.
Remember when the GOP cared about abortion as THE issue. Well, they have the Congress and P, where are all the bills to stop abortion?
Same goes for physician assisted suicide. Remember when Congress called a special session to deal with Terri Shiavo? What happened to that issue so important it required special Congressional attention?
Sadly, the US has one of its two political parties incapable of governing. They have fulfilled Jindal's warning of becoming the party of stupid. You may not agree with the Ds, but they had policies and ideas. The GOP is truly the party of campaign rhetoric and governing by "no." It's sad to see the party reduced to this husk and extremely dangerous people are still buying it.
