The thing about the QB spot and wanting a QB in this class

After spending way too much thought on this, I am like a lot on this board and want a QB in this class...but I am not sure JUCO QB is the answer...I am also not sure a freshman QB is the answer...maybe an answer can be found with either...but the more I think about it the more I am wanting a transfer QB (not a graduate transfer...)

If we were to target a JUCO QB, he has to easily be the guy next year (and thus beyond). I am not sure that guy is out there. It isn't a great crop of JUCO QBs this year, but also whoever would come in would have to clearly beat out Cozart. Insert your favorite joke here, but at the end of the day Cozart has gotten better every year, is starting to understand this system, and apparently the entire team loves the guy. It's hard for a new guy to come in here and win this job flat out right away against all of that.

My two favorite JUCO QBs are Rathen Ricedorff out of Mesa and Jordan Hoy out of Fullerton. Hoy isn't a mid-year guy, so him to come out this summer and win the job by the start of camp is a tall task (although I could see an exception made for him, that in a little bit). With Ricedorff, even with him being a mid-year guy, I am not sure he is talented enough to win this job from the get go...with him being a 2 year guy...if he doesn't we are essentially wasting a scholarship on him to be a backup this year and have only one year left to be a starter. Not sure that is a good use of a scholarship...

Now with a freshman QB, if we can find one, I think it is critical that QB could potentially start after a redshirt year (when Cozart graduates). The problem with that is the QB group is already mostly committed somewhere, so trying to find a guy like that this late in the recruiting process isn't easy

So really, when I think about a QB in this class, I am more and more thinking about finding a guy that can start for us in 2018. Now I could see some value in a 3X3 JUCO QB like Jordan Hoy for this - maybe he starts toward the end of next year and we now have him for two more years as the starting QB. But if we are thinking along those lines, I could see a lot of value in taking a talented transfer this season. Every year, young QBs (specifically either true freshman or RS FR...noting we could get creative with a RS FR and get him eligible for this next 2017 season...) transfer. I could see some value in taking one of these young QBs (whom we don't know about yet), redshirting him for a year and getting that system under him, then having him ready to start for 2018. Essentially, looking for a transfer I think is the best way to find a talented QB at this stage in the season that is capable of starting for us in 2 seasons...It gives you a few options to go along with Stanley and Starks to compete for the starting job in 2018...
