In my opinion, the main reason there are major riffs between American citizens today is because of the two party system. When it comes down to it, the majority of individuals will affiliate, and vote for either the Republican or Democrat party. This creates a sense of allegiance to either party, which creates uneducated voters because they vote to keep their party in a position of power. No matter what policies a candidate has, a far left or far right voter will NEVER vote the other way. The alternative would be to vote third party, and we know that the third party is essentially non-existent in today's politics. As long as a two party system is in place, there will always be a huge riff in American society. Both sides are too stubborn and arrogant to find a common ground between the two. We are socialized as children to negotiate with each other and find a solution that satisfies needs of both sides, which sometimes means giving up something for the common good. Why is it so damn hard for politicians to abide by these basic concepts? (By the way, I have no alternative solution to the two party system, just recognizing a flaw/way of thinking). Let me know what you all think!
