September 11th, 1973. The US government backed Augusto Pinochet to overthrow the democratically and freely elected Allande. A dictatorship was installed, a genocide ensued. Over a quarter million Chileans were imprisoned and many brutally tortured. Other despotic dictatorships were supported and installed and the country went into one of the worst depressions in its history.
Pinochet would never face the war crimes tribunal against him and this wouldn't be the only genocide committed under Nixon and Kissinger.
They never taught us that in school and it's 100% true.
