The Obvious Problems this Year

The most serious problem was the inconsistency of play from each starter and main backups this year, including Ellis.

Selden - His offense was very suspect this year. He is a very streaky shooter that seems if he misses his first couple of shots he is done. His ball control on offense needs considerable work to play at this level or advance to the NBA.

Mason - While he was the most consistent on offense he took himself out of games by not great defense. He would get silly reaching fouls.

Alexander - Took himself out of a number of games with far too aggressive defense. And he never developed a consistent shot for offense that he could work with on a consistent basis.

Ellis - We very easily would get frustrated when he was roughed up around the basket. He seemed to go into mental shock in some games. BUT OVERALL HE WAS THE MOST CONSISTENT SCORER FOR US THIS YEAR.

Traylor - Plays with a great deal of energy but is often out of control on defense. He could easily get knocked out of games with fouls. His passing was suspect in several games.

Oubre - Took a 1/3 of the season to get going and then had some great games. Towards the end of the season I think the pressure games got to him and simply reverted to his earlier play. He has a ways to go in developing consistent offensive skills.

Greene - His value to the team was being a shooter that was sinking enough baskets to makeup for very poor defense. If he was not hitting shots, which happened often, he became a liability on the team. Overall a very inconsistent player that I do not believe belongs at this level. Add to that is actions off court and think he becomes a liability in building a team.

Graham - At times he looked lost on defense but he is a freshman. His passing at times was really wild and often at critical times.

Lucas - Had a couple of good games but has not developed enough playing time to learn how to hold his position with out fouling.

Summary - It is not that this was a bad team this year. But because of inconsistency on both offense and defense this was a team that struggled so they were just not great this year. With greater understanding of how Bill wants them to play offense and defense this will be a better team.

Everyone including Bill believes we need a new stronger taller bigger center/power forward. Highly likely that Alexander is gone.

Likely that Oubre is gone if he is in the top half of Round 1 in the NBA draft.
