As I should have expected, about 2 minutes after the game I got a text from a KStater really excited about KUs 0-fer season. After I congratulated him on his Super Bowl win hoping he'd just go away but he couldn't stop. I tried to explain that this season wasn't about wins but more about the progress of the program amongst other things. He just kept twisting the knife. That's when I turned the conversation a bit.
I bet him 100 dollars that within 5 years KU would have a better record than KState. I don't know if I believe that to be true or not but it's definitely possible considering where both programs are at the moment. He wouldn't take the bet. Instead he started sending me other bets like 100 dollars that KU would drop the football program within 5 years or 100 dollars that Les Miles would be their next coach. After trying to accept all of those bets I realized he wasn't gonna take any if them.
After that the convo steered towards KUs destruction when the Power 5 conferences break away and form their own league. He was adamant KU would be left out. After I showed him that KU was 4th in big 12 revenue last season he just started rambling about KU basketball not meaning anything to the big 12. I just stopped texting him back because I realized I was dealing with a 28 yr old with the mentality of a child.
But I laugh at the notion that there are actually grape stains that believe KU will not make it into a power conference or that bball revenue doesn't matter to the conference. And the real news is that most Kstate fans might never admit it but they are worried that their program is headed toward irrelevancy and it's happening quicker than they would like to believe.
Just thought I'd share.
