Im curious to hear how others have seen their ku football experience change over the years.

For me i have been a season ticketholder since 2001, my first year out of college. We found a group of like minded ku football die hards through Big Blue Monday. We joined their tailgating crew and have been getting together ever since.

No one could argue the best pregame experience was anything other than when Mangino started getting some wins vs mizzou, ksu, and to bowl games. The excitement around the stadium was so contagious.

Then the Gill era came along as my kids were very small. I had a built in excuse to not be as invested in the program. My wife stayed at home multiple times with the kids and quickly it was hard to find someone simply to give a free ticket to. I hated the hire from the beginning, had a pseudo meltdown here when the news broke.

Weis was hired and i wanted to be optimistic but heard of his extreme lack of of dedication to being in lawrence during the year. I knew he was here for money and trying to win with transfers and jucos, which had no likelihood of long term success if he even had ahort term success. What made the experience worth it for me was my kids getting to about 4yo. They looked forward to the tailgate and seeing big and little jay at the game. My son wants to throw the football non stop at games now. It made the games have meaning bc of how excited my kids were.

I was so checked out at the end of Weis' time that i felt like another worthless hire would stretch me to the point i wasnt surehow i could justify massive eforts to work around my kids' activities so we could go watch more heartless football at Memorial. When Beaty got hired, i found the energy i missed. It was a guy that wanted to be here and wasnt all talk. He worked harder than i ever felt the last 3 coaches worked in recruiting. I know Mangino got complacent, gill was a fvcktard with no clue how to recruit at this level, and weis...well f him. Beaty was kissing a$$ everywhere. He didnt try to tell you some story about how he was great. He told you stories of how ku football was great and will be great...bc of others, not bc of him. Kids are getting a chance to have energy and pride in their team again. The contagious part of ku football is starting to creep back in my life. Cant wait to share this season with my friends and family.

I urge you guys to spend a few dollars to get your kids involved in jr jayhawks and other activities. My kids are going to be on the field holding the American flag and cant quit talking about it. My daughter is doing the cheerleader deal the memphis game with her best friend (they are 6yo) and are pumped about it. That stuff also makes the wife less grumpy about games bc its more of a family event. :)
