On passing situations, the defense ran what was essentially a 3-3-5 a few times. Usually was either Dorance Armstrong or Cameron Rosser would play some kind of LB spot, but would roam along the DL - sometimes lining up outside standing up, sometimes inside standing up. I remember South Carolina doing this a lot with Melvin Ingram a few years ago. Gives an opportunity for a talented guy to use that talent and be disruptive.

Why I really think this is interesting - running this against Rhode Island...this shows me this is only one the the tricks up Bowen's sleeve. I think there are many things you could complain about with Bowen's defense, but one thing he deserves a lot of credit is coming up with creative pass rush schemes. Before we have seen them have two inside guys then two outside guys as stand up defensive ends, we have seen Bowen throw in the bandit package, and a few more...but I don't remember seeing this scheme before. I think we see Bowen get really creative this season with ways of rushing the passer.

Something else I thought was interesting was Damani Mosby was brought in with this personnel group a lot of a 5-tech type inside guy. Makes a lot of sense with a formation like this. Also curious what they plan on doing with Bean this year - kid was very, very active out there when he was in...thinking this kid is starting at DE by the end of the season...
