I know we aren't happy with the results the past few years, but these kids have worked hard and been through a ton. Even though the wins weren't there, this group did set a couple of examples that I think can be learning points for the young kids down the road.
Two particular seniors I think of with respect to this are Ben Goodman and Tre Parmalee. Goodman goes from playing the BUCK spot to being told to bulk up for the DL for a 3 man front then Chris Martin gets arrested and is told to slim down then is told to bulk up for his junior year and finally his senior year moves to a 4-3 DE. 3 different positions in 3 different years. He also graduated last year and could easily left the team, but he didn't. Has had a pretty nice season so far registering 5.5 sacks. With Parmalee, he hasn't really done much his first three years, but has come out and had a pretty solid senior year. He shows those young kids that if you keep on working, you can become a player down the road.
Also some props to Michael Glatczak. Walk ons don't get enough credit for all they do. This is a kid that was a WR in JUCO, comes to KU last year, then this year is a starter at safety - all on his dime. Not bad for a local small town kid.
