Webb was a highly regarded quarterback out of Prosper, Texas, High School. When Kliff Kingsbury became the Red Raiders head coach in 2013, Webb became just the second true freshman to start for Texas Tech when he took the field against Iowa State and threw for 415 yards and three touchdowns.

He spent the rest of that season in a rotation with Baker Mayfield, who at season’s end transferred to Oklahoma. Webb completed 226-of-361 pass attempts in 10 games in 2013, throwing for 2,718 yards and 20 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

Webb was named offensive MVP of the 2013 Holiday Bowl after completing 28-of-41 passes for 403 yards and four TDs as the Red Raiders upset No. 14 Arizona State.

He was the starter for Texas Tech in the first eight contests of 2014, connecting on 211-of-345 pass attempts for 2,539 yards and 24 touchdowns before suffering an ankle injury. That allowed Pat Mahomes to take over as the starter, and Webb never was able to get starting job back.
