Taison Chatman, the 6-foot-3, 175-pound shooting guard from Totino Grace High School in Fridley, Minn., recently took an official visit to Kansas. Chatman, the No. 69 ranked player in the 2023 class, is being heavily recruited by the likes of Kansas, Connecticut, Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Louisville, Marquette, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Texas, Texas Tech, Virginia, Washington State, Xavier, Kansas State, and others.
Coming off an official visit to Kansas, what did Chatman, a four-star prospect, think about his time in Lawrence?
"It was good and I spent a lot of time with the team," said Taison Chatman when talking about his official visit to Kansas. "I toured the campus and spent time with the coaching staff. I hung out with Bobby (Pettiford) and Zach Clemence. I'd say there was a little bit of both (surprised and what he expected). We went through a day in the life. They get a lot of basketball players and they are treated well up there, too. I think it's a great school.
"I think it's a great school and Coach self said that I would fit in great," he added.
Aside from spending time with the players and getting a feel for what life is like as a member of the University of Kansas men's basketball program, Chatman, not surprisingly, was able to spend some quality time with Coach Self and members of his staff.
"He's funny and entertaining and he's good to talk with along with the rest of the staff," said Chatman.
For Chatman, the next step in the process is narrowing down his list of schools. With close to 20 scholarship offers on the table, Chatman is looking to cut his list of schools down to five in the near future.
“I’m probably done with visits until the fall,” he said. “When the fall comes, I’ll probably take LSU, Minnesota, and Ohio State and then be done with it.”
According to Chatman, the schools most heavily involved in his recruitment right now are Kansas, Minnesota, LSU, Virginia, Connecticut, and Ohio State
"I am not sure when I will decide," he said. "I will probably decide sometime in the fall. I'm going to trim my list down soon."
