50 years of the Assad family regime appears to be over. Rebels have entered the capital and Assad has fled. Some speculation if his plane was shot down or not.
His biggest allies was Iran (via Hezbollah which was decimated recently by Israel) and Russia which has to deal with its own territory invaded by Ukraine. And just like that the Syrian army collapsed.
I would expect to see another Islamic regime prevail instead of a true democratic republic. It really depends on what the rebels do and if they keep their word (unlikely)
