-- Following his official visit to Kansas, I had a few people tell me that he would head to UCF for his second official visit. However, that visit never took place. Morris, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound point guard from Dallas, Texas, did take a visit to DePaul and, several days later, announced his commitment date. Until the day of his announcement, I was told by a handful of people that DePaul would be the choice. Obviously, Morris has an off-the-court issue that he's dealing with, and with the trial set for June 14 (what I've been told), several questions remain unanswered regarding how that case will ultimately play out. When Primo Spears announced his commitment date during his official visit to Florida State, I got the feeling that things with Morris might be headed in a different direction. There's no doubt in my mind that Bill Self, his staff, and the University of Kansas did everything they could possibly do before making a final decision on Morris. My guess is, several conversations took place and those conversations likely took place over a period of days/weeks.
-- Late on Saturday afternoon, I heard from a couple of people that Jaylon Tyson was really enjoying his official visit to Kansas. He took his first official visit to California last week and arrived in Lawrence for his official visit on Friday. There are a couple of things at play here. His brother, Jordyn Tyson, is a talented wide receiver and recently hit the transfer portal after beginning his career at Colorado. I'm still gathering all of the facts, but I believe his brother also visited California last week and joined him again this weekend in Lawrence. I should have some type of update on Tyson later today and I'll ask him about his brother and where things stand in terms of wanting to play at the same college. I know many of you have asked if any additional visits have been scheduled, so I should have an answer later today.
-- As I reported that week, I was told by a source that Kansas is planning to bring Mackenzie Mgbako, the No. 8 ranked player in the 2022 class, in for a visit. At the time of the conversation, I was told the visit would likely take place on Monday (tomorrow), but it was made clear to me the staff wants the 6-foot-8, 185-pound small forward from Roselle (NJ) Catholic HS to visit ASAP. I've reached out to his mother and also contacted my source to get an update. As soon as I hear something, I'll let you all know.
-- I'll add that I've got nothing new to report on Hunter Dickinson. From what I've been told, he'll wrap up his visit to Villanova today and, moving forward, will concentrate on making a final decision. Bill Self visited Dickinson, the 7-foot-1, 260-pound center from Hyattsville, Md., last week and I can tell you that he's done everything in his recruitment of Dickinson. Self made Dickinson a priority from the minute he hit the portal and never backed off. If Dickinson goes elsewhere, it won't be due to a lack of effort on KU's part. I've said this many times and I'll say it again, Kansas is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best destination for Dickinson, in my opinion. With Dajuan Harris, Nicolas Timberlake, and Arterio Morris on the perimeter, Dickinson will be the man down low for Kansas. There's no doubt that he'd likely average 20 or more points and 10 or more rebounds per game. Surrounded by so much talent, Dickinson would shine under Bill Self. I'll reach out to Hunter and do my best to get an update, but can't promise anything.
