Within the past week or so, some offers have gone out that has painted a good picture of what the staff is looking for in the DT spot and also set themselves up to be in a really good position sooner than later with the receiver group. Breaking it down by position...

DEFENSIVE TACKLE
With all of Wise/Williams/Davis/Holani/Dezir being back next year, KU doesn't need an immediate impact DT in this class...but because Davis/Holani/Dezir are all juniors you do need some guys that you think can contribute in two years with one being a redshirt year next year. Knowing they would have a year to develop, I have been curious what kind of DTs they would target - would they look for bigger guys or guys they can build up. With recent offers to Troy James and Noah Jones, I think we are looking at them targeting some guys they can build (and these two dudes are goooooodddddd - big potential with them)

Now they did also offer Zi'yon Hill, so they aren't just targeting long relatively slender guys they can build up (although I like Jones and James a little more than Hill). It does make me wondr if the plan is to target one guy to be a gap shooting 5 tech (Jones and James fit that role) and then one guy to be a 3 tech to muddy things up (like Hill). Or maybe the plan is to take 3 DTs. Still some uncertainty there, but seeing some new offers go out to DTs it does look like they have a plan

WIDE RECEIVER
Starting off - I honestly think we will have 4 WR commits before May.

Before going into the why of that, KU has recently offered two big and strong WRs in Tyquez Hampton and Judah Bell. In particular I think Hampton, who is currently committed to SMU, is an absolute monster - dude needs to work on his route running some, but is an animal with the ball in his hands

So let's look at some of the WRs KU has offered other than these guys who have not committed anywhere yet:

Jordan Hill
Reggie Roberson
Takulve Williams
Shamond Greenwood
Kade Remsberg (maybe plays another position)

With all 7 of these guys, I think it can be argued KU is the "best" or most prolific of their offers or at least in the top 2 or 3 of each offer list. With Travis Jordan committed, I think you are looking at something like 3 or 4 spots left for the class at WR.

Recruiting is fluid, so who knows what happens, but consider this situation. It has been said Roberson might be close to committing to the good guys, leaving potentially 2 or 3 spots. It looks like Shamond Greenwood is visiting for the Spring Game. What if the staff told Greenwood they are expecting a commit soon from another receiver and that only leaves a couple of spots left...I could see there being some pressure on Greenwood to commit. If that happens, you are looking at only a spot or two left and for 4 or 5 guys whose best or one of the best offers is KU...wouldn't be surprised if there is a rush to claim a spot in fear of losing that spot

While that may not happen - maybe Roberson and/or Greenwood aren't ready to commit, it does show how quickly those spots can go and with KU being in the position offer wise with those guys like they are, things could happen very quickly at this position group

I think we are going to have a fun April in the recruiting world, sit back and enjoy the ride!
