Many of the people who support Cruz support him in part for his positioning himself as an outsider - as the non-politician. He constantly talks about "those people in Washington". What's baffling is, not only is he a US Senator, making the call of outsider somewhat suspect, but perhaps no candidate that I can think of has been more insider political in their campaign than Cruz. He set up the infrastructure a year ago to have delegates supportive of him in positions to favor him. He's even got people already named on the rules committee that is favorable to him. For someone who claims to loathe politicians and to be outside the infrastructure, he certainly plays within it better than most of the people he cites.
