LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas football finalized its non-conference portion of its 2016 and 2017 schedules by announcing two home contests Friday.
Kansas will open the 2016 season with Rhode Island on Sept. 3, while beginning the 2017 campaign with Southeast Missouri State traveling to Lawrence on Sept. 2. The Jayhawks were previously slated to match-up in a home-and-home series with Hawaii in 2016-17.
KU's 2016 contest with Rhode Island will be the first time the teams have squared-off in the history of the two programs. The Rams are coming off of a 1-11 season in which they recorded a 1-7 record in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Jayhawks will have faced SEMO just once prior to the 2017 game. Kansas opened the 2014 season in Memorial Stadium with the Redhawks, winning by a final score of, 34-28. SEMO completed the 2014 season with a 5-7 record, while finishing 3-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
