I had a chance to get with some of the committed players recently and get any updates.
One player who gave me some news was Dakyus Brinkley. The four-star DE has been out of action with a knee injury. When I talked to him earlier in the season, he said he was waiting to see how it goes.
He did end up having surgery and I don’t what his timetable is to return. I don’t believe it was a serious injury from what I gather. He said he is in constant contact with Jordan Peterson.
Brinkley told me he might visit during the Oklahoma game, but wanted to see how he feels. One other piece of news he said he can’t wait to get on campus on January. He plans to graduate early and enroll at semester.
I talked with Jalen Todd and he said his season is going well. He visited for the BYU game and saw a sold out crowd.
"It felt amazing to be back in Lawrence after being committed and the vibes were good everybody was very friendly and made it feel like home," Todd said. "The atmosphere was crazy it felt unreal, it was a great fanbase you can tell everyone loves being there, I can't wait to play there."
It also gave him an opportunity to connect with the coaches again since his official visit.
"I got to talk with Coach Simpson, Coach Peterson, Coach Borland, and all the coaches were welcoming and excited to see me there," Todd said.
Another visitor for the BYU game was Carson Bruhn. The three-star tight end from Iowa was impressed with the crowd and support.
"The atmosphere in The Booth is always amazing," Bruhn said. "The student support was very apparent at the beginning of the game, and the crowd was rocking."
Bruhn's team is currently ranked #5 in the latest state poll. He said he talked with Andy Kotelnicki about his season and the KU offense.
"The coaching staff is the thing that has always stood out," he said. "They are all so genuine and have great relationships with each other, and I've been able to make those connections and relationships also. Talking to Coach K is always good. We talked about a variety of stuff but mostly about my football season and what the game plan was for BYU."
This season Bruhn's team has relied on the ground game for a lot of success. They haven't thrown the ball as much. He looks forward to playing in the KU offense after seeing how they use the tight ends.
"It's exciting to see the success the tight ends are having right now," Bruhn said. "Coach K has kind of introduced what I would say is a position-less tight end. He'll line them up in the backfield as a fullback or spread them out like a wide receiver. So, he loves to use them all over the field to create mismatches. And to show the commitment to using three tight ends is also very impressive."
