So I watched that 30 for 30 about McCartney at Colorado, and it got me thinking about what recruiting pitches KU is using, specifically to guys like Bledsoe and Simmons. Hometown hero, playing early and turning things around are good. But are they powerful enough? I think for most of these KS kids, it's not necessarily the allure of going to an OU, but more about the fear that KU won't turn it around while they are there. If all things were equal and KU was fighting for Big 12 titles with OU I think KU would obviously be a much easier choice.

Fear is a powerful motivator, just listen to what any politician has to say these days, so how do we strike a chord with KS kids that can combat their fear of possibly not winning any games while at KU? I think you have to hit them hard with the fear of missing out and having regrets. Maybe something like...

"Honestly, you are going to have a great experience, meet lifelong friends and have pro scouts know who you are no matter where you choose to go to school. Regardless if your team wins a bunch of games or loses a bunch. Ask guys like Heeney, Reesing, Ramblood, Stowers, Stuckey etc. Or really anyone who ever went to college. It's just a fact. Now, at KU we aren't planning on losing very many games, we're turning this thing around with or without you.

The question is, if you choose KU over OU, and both schools end up winning a bunch of games and competing for Jan bowl games, will you regret not going to OU? Of course not. Now picture yourself at OU, and both KU and OU are winning a bunch of games and competing for Jan bowl games. Will you have any regrets about not having been a part of the turnaround and becoming a KS legend? If the answer is a resounding no or you are absolutely impartial, then maybe KU isn't the place for you, but if you have even the smallest doubt that you might regret watching KU take off and not being a part of it, then KU is definitely the place for you.

You're a great player, a terrific young man and deep down I think you know that you have a special opportunity to make your mark at Kansas and help us win the Big 12. There will be no greater professional satisfaction you will ever experience than when you win a Big 12 title at KU, but their will be no greater professional regret you will ever have than if you miss out on that opportunity and watch us do it without you. Create your own destiny and live your life so you have no regrets. Come be a part of this. Rock Chalk Jayhawk."
