I have been reading up this weekend about the catch for a TD that is not in fact a catch. They keep addressing the 'he didn't survive the ground' issue and ignoring the blatant rule that should make it a catch. Bryant caught the ball in the air, crossed the goal line with the ball in possession, and then the ball moved upon contact with the ground. My understanding of the rules is once the ball crosses the goal line in possession of the player, it's a touchdown and anything subsequent to that action is irrelevant. How can Bryant's drop of the ball after he's in the endzone cause it to not be a catch when his possession over the goal line should have stopped the play the second he did that, meaning still in the air?
I don't get this call. Can anyone give me a clue here?
