Things get a little bit scary when you start breaking down some of his numbers so far...so far this season...
His season LOWS through three games are 470 yards, 69.8% completion percentage, 4 passing TDS, and 6 total TDs in any given game so far. The lowest point total in a game so far for Tech is 55 points. But the scariest thing to me is that so far through 3 games, Mahomes has only thrown 2 INTS, which is a rate of an INT every 66 passes for him (compared to an INT every 39 passes through 3 games last year).
Now some of the numbers are arguably inflated given the non-con schedule, but the reality is Tech is going to pass the ball, do it pretty well, and put up some points on us.
It is worth mentioning that KU has done decent against the pass so far this year. We are 5th in the nation in passing yards allowed per game (have to drop that number before Thursday because we will definitely drop), but beyond that the number I have liked so far is opponents are completing less than 50% of their passes against us. While I don't think we can hold Mahomes to that low of a total, my hopes for this game is that we do relatively well with completion percentage against Mahomes. Force him to make some bad throws, maybe get an INT or 2 out of it, and general just make it the worst game he has had so far this season. I know this is moral victory territory because Mahomes worst game so far this season could still be a ridiculous performance, but I am hoping we see some signs this game that our defense really has gotten better in pass coverage
