OT: knee pain

I'm 51, knees are both catching during soccer practice causing pain during maneuvers. I'm guessing torn meniscus. I'm sitting in the Dr's office now. Assistant tells me they'll take an x-ray first. Seems like a waste of time to me if it won't shoe meniscus damage but maybe they have to rule out other stuff (CYA?). I would assume that everything is seen my MRI these days?
